Water is seriously polluted nowadays. It may include chlorides which will cause corrosion or impurities or biological activities and attack the condenser. That will lead to the shutdown problems of the chiller. In order to achieve trouble-free cooling operations, we look for an alternative solution where these problems can be avoided.
An indirect system using a heat exchanger in combination with the open cooling tower is a good solution. It proved that the payback period of the heat exchanger is very short and the cost of material used in condenser is reduced. With an intermediate heat exchanger, chillers as well as cooling towers can be run at an optimal temperature. The intermediate heat exchanger also means less maintenance and a minimum of chemicals.
